This is a FAQ (frequently Ask Question) so I’m posting it FYI (For Your Information)....
How to Buy a Subwoofer
No matter what type of music you like, from country to rap... When you hear that base hitting hard and that bump in your trunk...Owwweeyy! What more can I say.
What kind of box do I need?
If you prefer a cleaner sound, subwoofers in a sealed box tend to produce a tight bass and more of a sharp sound.
If you want a looser, boomier sound, subwoofers in a ported or band pass enclosure is what you need.
Sealed boxes: For DEEP BASE
A sealed box is best for that deep bass you have been looking for. A sealed box tends to need more power than a ported box, so you will need to use an amplifier with enough power to push them subs, but the over all sound is incredible!
Ported boxes: For Forceful Bass
Ported boxes use the ports to produce that low bass response. You get more of an output than you would from a sealed box.
Bandpass boxes: For Maximum Impact!
Bandpass boxes are ported boxes that will produce that BUMP in the Trunk! The woofers are mounted inside a dual-chambered box. The sound then comes out of the port, producing a narrow frequency range. Bandpass boxes are efficient with a frequency range, and bump!
Free-air subwoofers
A free-air system is mounted in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk of the car acts as an enclosure, or a giant sealed box. Free-air systems save space and produce a nice sound, but the woofer must be designed for free-air use. Other wise it might not sound so good.
Enough Room?
Before you go placing an order or making that custom box, make sure that it will fit first! Make sure to take measurements, and then compare the measurements to the amount of space needed. Don’t forget to give your self a little leeway and keep in mind that even thought it might fit you may not be able to get it into the trunk. You may have to put the box together inside of the trunk rather then putting it together then trying to get it to fit into the trunk. Make sense... Also keep in mind that depending on the size of the box you may eliminate the use of your trunk.
Enough power!
That DEEP BASE every-one is looking for requires allot power. So make sure to check the specs of the subs, the constant handing power not the max power.
Crossovers
A crossover can be set to keep high frequencies away from your subs. Most amplifiers have built-in crossovers, but not all. So, if you're setting up a multi-amp system, your best results will be when using a crossover to direct different frequency bands to the appropriate amps and speakers.
